Steven Dhondt was asked to moderate a discussion between a highly distinguished panel of participants as part of KU Leuven’s 600th Anniversary celebrations.

Frank Pascuale, professor at Cornell University, has written extensively on the adoption of AI, law and technology. He launched the idea of algorithmic accountability. Valeria Pulignano is a professor at KU Leuven and is responsible for an ERC grant on the functioning of the platform economy. Aida Ponce del Castillo participated as a researcher from the European trade union research institute, ETUI. She has conducted numerous studies on strategic foresight and on AI governance. Kristof Vrancken is part of the Institute of Media Studies of the KU Leuven.

The discussion also had a practical side. Tom Vrijens participated as General Secretary of the Belgian trade-union ACV-Metea. His trade union has conducted research on how workers can participate in shaping technology at workplaces. The discussion contributed to the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the KU Leuven. It provided the opportunity to share insights from the Bridges 5.0 project. The discussion was held on May 26th.
